Week 41: International Table Tennis Championships

A few weeks ago I had the novel experience of going to the International Table Tennis Championship in Rotterdam. Not really knowing what I was in for, I watched a YouTube video to get the basic gist – it’s pretty phenomenal – tall, wiry players thwacking a tiny ball, onto a tiny table from quite a distance.
Way, way beyond my physical talents and coordination levels.

Overall, the things I learned about competitive table tennis were:

  • China breeds some impressive ping pong players
  • Who likes short shorts? Table tennis players like short shorts.
  • It’s not a major sporting tournament until the Space Jam theme song has blared through the stadium
  • Ben and Jerry’s vending machines are the bomb
